Silver Leaf Jewellery making course

Beginners Woodland jewellery course

15the June - Other dates available; please get in touch if this date isn't suitable.

This class will introduce you to the magic of silver clay and is suitable for beginners. You will be guided through the process by Bethan who has 16 years experience of working with silver clay.   The course is situated in Bethan's workshop in the grounds of Glynllifon.

We can go for a 20 minute woodland walk to collect leaves and inspiration, or bring your own leaves, details of which will be forwarded to you once the course is booked.

Silver clay is a relatively new product (1995), it can be worked like clay and yet is made of pure silver particles, with a binder and water. When it is fired the result is a pure silver piece which is of fine silver hallmark quality.

This course is suitable for adult learners with no previous experience of working with silver clay or those who do.

- 7g of silver clay/ 99% silver (enough to make one to two pieces of jewellery)

- Lots of tea, coffee and biscuits

- Findings for your pieces that you make (ie jump rings, wire for drop earrings, silver posts for studs)

- Use of all equipment and materials needed to make your jewellery pieces

- Items found in nature if you haven’t collected your own on the nature walk

- A detailed instruction booklet detailing everything you need to know.

What you will learn;

How to handle and store the clay
How to roll to a consistent thickness
Texturing and cutting the clay
Refining the dry pieces
Firing the pieces
Polish and finish the pieces

We will have a quick practice with Play Doh, and then swiftly move on the exiting stuff.

We will make a pendant or charm and then you can create one or two additional pieces depending upon their size. After refining and firing your pieces you will see the transformation as you polish your pieces. You will leave the course with your pieces of beautiful solid silver jewellery.

What's included in the price?

Materials to make 2 pieces (depending on size), the use of tools to create various designs. Hot and/or cold drinks and biscuits And the lovely jewellery pieces you make to take away and treasure.

Please bring your own lunch, there is a cafe within walking distance.
